Hey everyone, I know this is a dumb question, but every Auto Part Store Bulb Size Listing, On Google, and everything I find says the 2013 Ford Escape uses a H11 bulb for the low beams. Does the SEL use a different halogen size? The reason I ask is, I ordered LED headlights in H11 after researching the size (Just bought this earlier this week for a little daily driver) so not to familiar with it yet, and the bulbs came but the bulbs I pull out look like 9005 (The 2 metal prongs are wider apart than on a H11).

Am I missing something? lol

Download the owners manual from the Ford website.

http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/catalog/owner_guides/13204om2e.pdf

The owners manual, p.235, says

H11LL for low beams

9005LL for high beams.

(the LL refers to long life).

Thats what I thought, but the H11 LED Headlight Bulbs I received the 2 metal prongs were much wider apart than the Halogen H11, and the vendor said it looked like a 9005 when I sent him a pic of the rear of the Halogen and the LED side by side, so I got the 9005 and the prongs were just as wide apart. So now I am trying to figure out why the LED bulbs in H11 are not the same. I would rather do a HID conversion but I am not sure how to use the rubber dust cap since a HID kit has wires that come out of the bulb. With plastic ones I usually drill a hole in the center so the rubber seal can fill the hole.

Can’t say why there is a difference in what an H11 looks like vs what the LED mfg says an H11 bulb should look like. It’s possible the LED mfg is only looking to FIT into an H11 hole but requires the use of an external resistor kit for proper function in a non-led circuit. The resistor kit would have one end plug into their bulb and the other end plug into the actual H11 connector of the OEM harness.

What is your reason for installing LED lights?

It’s never a good idea to simply swap the type of light bulb contained in a headlight with another type of light bulb. I.e. swapping in HID or LED into a Halogen headlamp housing or any other combination of swapping. The dispersion pattern and focal point of the light being emitted differs from one bulb type to the next. That’s why there are different headlamp assemblies for each bulb type.

By just swapping bulbs you can actually reduce the amount of available light and blind oncoming drivers which makes it dangerous for everyone.

If you’re simply looking to get a brighter White light just look for a halogen H11 with a cooler color rating like 4200K.

LED Headlight Upgrade Question

I ordered from Amazon the Beamtech LED Headlight Bulbs a few months ago for my 2013 Escape SEL (Which is H11 if I remember correctly now) and they they arrived I tried putting them in but I quickly noticed the notches on the headlight did not line up with the notches in the headlight, so I sent them back and had them send me another set but these had the same problem.

Has anyone else had a issue getting LED Bulbs to fit like they are supposed to? I wanted to replace my Halogen with these for better night vision.

LED Headlight Upgrade Question

I have replaced all of my stock bulbs (except the headlamps, which are factory HIDs) with LEDs, and I have not experienced any fitment issues.

FWIW, I just replaced the high beams in my wife’s 2016 Explorer with 6500K Beamtech bulbs, which fit perfectly and are an exact color match for the factory LED low beams and fogs.

I merged your new thread with the previous thread you created asking about this.

I just installed a set of LED headlight bulbs but they both come on for 1 second and turn off and I get a low beam error message on the dash. Anyone get this before?

The bulb you are talking about is the high beam. Low beam the pins are close together.

I have the exact car in silver. I installed the Beamtech H11 in my car and when turned on, they would shine then turn back off in 5 seconds. I called Beamtech and they sent me anti flickers to install, that was a month ago. Today I was starting to get a code and did some investigating, the antiflicker parts had gotten extremely hot and burned through the bottom of my headlight housing on the passenger side. The high beam LEDs work from Beamtech, NOT the H11 low beam for your car. Hope this information helps. I will look for the brightest low beam halogens for my car and use the Led for high beams.

I drive a 2017 Ford Escape.

The low beam bulb on the passenger side died yesterday morning.

That afternoon, after checking the manual, I bought an H11 replacement from my local auto store and went home to replace it, only to find the bulb did not fit in the socket.

I drove back to the auto store and the clerk checked his computer which said the low beam was the 9005 bulb which matched the burned-out one that I removed from the vehicle.

Fortunately, he was nice enough to let me swap them out and I was able to successfully install the 9005 in the low beam socket.

These words are directly copied from the manual:

———————————————————-

Headlamps high beam (Halogen) | 9005LL

* Headlamps high beam (HID) | H1

Headlamp low beam (Halogen) | H11LL

* Headlamp low beam (HID) | D3S

———————————————————-

So, does the official manual have a typo where the bulb numbers for the halogen low and high beams are swapped (I have no idea about the HID bulbs), or did a bunch of Escapes leave the factory with the sockets swapped?

I searched on Google and found plenty of sites that said the low beam was H11 and plenty that said it was 9005.
