I’m trying to figure out the actual headlight dimensions for my ’08 500 without taking everything apart.

I’m looking to upgrade to a LED light, but not one of the plug in bulbs. I absolutely love the look of the Harley DayMaker lights, both lit and off.

My problem starts because I can’t find any accurate measurements for the diameter of my headlight. I’m wanting to swap one of the led units into my factory bucket, but what size do I need?

EBay shows everything from a 4 1/2″ to a 7″ diameter as an “exact fit” for my bike, and that’s just not going to work.

Has anyone else already figured this out? Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks Blaine! The 5 3/4 was what I was looking for. I’m going to do a complete swap of the headlight unit, but not the bucket if that makes sense. I’m attaching a pic of the style I’m swapping to, I just haven’t decided if I’m going with the black (pictured) or chrome version.

These lights are amazing though! A much brighter, wider spread of light over factory headlights, and a lower power use as well. Something to keep in mind when looking to replace your headlight.

DKC,

What is the make and model of the light unit you have pictured?

Update on this thread…

I ordered a headlight off eBay… found one at a really great price (new, under $30 with shipping).

While I was waiting on paint to dry on my newly made saddlebags I figured I’d swap the light too. That ended up not working out so well.

After pulling the headlight out, I discovered that the actual headlight housing is held on to the trim ring internally, not the clamp style I was expecting. See photo 1. Photo 2 shows the back of the new light, which is smooth and won’t accept this style mounting.

Just figured I’d update everyone on what I’ve ran into so far. If I find a system to make things work, I’ll be sure to grab pictures and post it here.

Have you made any more progress on getting this headlight to work with the original headlight bucket? I’d really like to do something similar, but it seems to be nearly impossible to find any details or descriptions from people who have swapped out the entire headlight and not just the bulb.

Famine, unfortunately, I have not. New job, long hours, no real time to sit and work on it. I ride the bike daily, so cannot have it down for an extended time while I work something up. Best guess for a quick fitment is to swap the complete headlight bucket to one that accepts the HD style lights. Right now my Daymaker light is resting back in it’s box on the shelf waiting for me to have time to explore things further.

I did end up throwing in a cheapie LED bulb though. Paid $6-7 for a pair of the H4 “4 sided” LEDs through eBay. They work pretty well for under $10, and are definitely brighter than the stock headlight.

As I make progress, I will be posting updates here. Other plans are adding a light bar on the front with matching driving lights, so things are definitely going to be brighter in the future (hahahahahaha)

There is a afkermarket retainer ring that apparently works on the 7” Kawasaki housing to use the daymaker….

I haven’t ordered mine yet but that’s what I found during my research.

It does work somewhat, but still requires modifications and doesn’t give full functionality of the adjustment screws from what I have read.

Otherwise, it looks like the best bet to use a daymaker is replace the complete headlight bucket so far. Some of the fork mount ones are set up for the daymaker to mount in, and people have been saying some good things about them…

I know I’m being a lazy 25 yr old diva right now but can you find me the exact parts that work lmao I legit suck bro. I’ll buy the wrong s**t or some fake stuff from bejing and get corona in the process. If you have time, help a brother out. I know that tightening bracket up there from the other guy but what about the housing part and the little wall looking outlet plug thingy…see dude I’m terrible
