Headlights: Ballast vs. Ignitor
In replacing the Right Headlight Assembly on my 02 TL-S, The ballast had water in it, I know its shot, but I’m being told the I must replace the ignitor as well. Anyone know if one goes, they both do? Doesn’t seem logical to me. Any way to test the Ignitor other than throwing it in the other assembly. (Im getting good at removing that DAMN bumper but eventually i’m going to break something!!!)
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I had this same problem. I had to change just the Ballast the ignitor was fine, if you shop around you can get it pretty cheap. I think they call it an “inverter”.

I finally just claimed it on my insurance and took it to the dealer. 1200$ to replace the housing, bulbs, inverter and ignitor, and fog light and bracket. I paid 100$ to Allstate and called it good.
Thanks for the info though

I know you’ve resolved this, but let me chime in here.
The ballast/ignitor are one unit in newer HID-equipped cars so this makes sense.

Insurance paid for what is probably considered “car maintenance”? Or did some fortunate vandalism occur to your light that allowed the insurance to cover?

Actually, I hit a piece of plywood while driving on the free way, I swerved and only hit on the Passenger side, so it took out the headlight and fog light, light damage to bumper. So it was covered as a comprehensive claim.
I was told by my adjuster that the headlight assembly on the Infinitti SUV is 1800$, so i guess 900 for the Acura is a Steal!!!

Wow, you’re fortunate that it didn’t come at the window. Glad to hear that wasn’t more damage. Nice driving to avoid more damage

Man, my light just quit working today. I remove the ballast and found water in it too. I shook the hell out of it and put it in the oven at 215deg for 7 minutes. It’s working now! Damn body shop sent my lights to get cleard after my accident and they did a really bad job. I’ll have to reseal myself!

I have the same problem. Replacing both of them fixed the problem? The biggest question, how do i get to the headlight? Should i remove the bumper to get to the headlight or is there an easier way? If i do have to remove the bumper are there any sensors that i need to be aware of? thank you in advance for any help

Just Wondering. How Can I Adjust The Headlight To Aim Properly? Someone Smashed It & After I Got It Fixed I Noticed One Is Pointed Very Slightly Downward And It Looks Just Fine When I Crouch Down Eye Level With The Bulb. Im Pissed. Do They Have Bubble Levelers To Help Set Straight Or Is It A Bigger Problem Like Maybe The Frame Is Offset?

Pop the hood and look at teh plastic trim above teh headlight. There are littel arrows in the area where the adjuster is. Its on the back side of the Headlight. Get a small socket (cant remember what size like 8mm-10mm) and park 20 feet or so from a garage door and adjust away
