i have a 05 murano, my auto headlights will shut off when i drive it in the morning when it gets light out; but at night they won’t shut off after i turn the key off. i am new to this car i was reading the manual it says it supposedly shuts off after five minutes, but woke up twice with a dead battery. i have it set to go off 30 second.

thanks

maybe this is a possibility, make sure the sensor on the dash is not covered with something.

you didn’t mention if you see you headlights on after 5 minutes… have you checked after an hour or two?

are you sure your battery is healthy? how old is it? i’d recommend having it load tested along with the alternator to be sure they are good.

you mention they work fine turning off in the morning. are you parking near a somewhat bright light source at night?

i just had a thought… the headlights turning off when it get bright out in the morning while driving is the auto headlights feature. the feature that turns them off after turning off your engine is a timeout feature separate from the auto feature, and it isn’t light source based, just time. perhaps it’s broken or confused. is there a setting in your settings for resetting everything to their defaults? if so, that may be worth a try…

i never trusted it to turn the headlights off for my ’03, so i would just turn the headlight switch to the off position…

from my ’03 owner’s manual:

the battery saver function should eventually turn the lights off, but it’s obviously not working correctly. perhaps an issue with the ignition switch itself. is there any indication that accessories/components etc. are still powered when you remove the key? do you know if any aftermarket electronics are installed in the car?

i don’t have any aftermarket stuff except for a fm transmitter hook into the aux port and it shuts off with the key.

thanks
