hope this isn’t as dumb as it sounds, but my car seems to have the relay for hid lights, but i can see the bottom of the light from the wheel well and don’t see any ballast. i have read the ballast is mounted on the bottom of the light. would really like to know before i pull the nose off.

i think one way is to push your windshield wipers washer button for a few seconds and see if the headlights get washed too. if they do, you have hids

turn ur fogs and headlights on. if your headlights are “whiter” than your fog, then u have hid. if they are the same/similar color, your normal lights. another way to find out is to call ur local dealer and give them the last 4 of your vin, and ask how much the hid ballast will cost. they will tell u of u have it or not.

exactly, but just make sure your car is running and the headlights are on too.

also, only the 17″ and up wheels had hid. but i won’t trust me as you don’t know what the previous owner(s) did.

my ’05 sport/luxury package had factory 17″ wheels without hid’s 🙁

it’s a little simpler than calling the dealer or compare heads and fogs.

wait until it is dark, pull up to a wall or your garage door and turn your headlights on.

if they are almost instantaneous with the light output they are halogens.

if they have a bright/quick flash then dim as the light seems to “warm up” to it’s full output they are hid’s.

give it a shot…

(or go to youtube and search “hid warm up”)

this is the easiest way to find out if you have hid’s, the other way with the window wipers works as well.

if you are already replacing lights, why not throw an hid kit in there?

since this thread is apart of the sticky and it answers a question on whether you have factory hid or halogen. well for those who have a factory hid set-up, the washers will be installed and should do the following…

it will be directly below the highbeam. in the same place, it should say hal if you have….halogen.

hb3a is high beam, you’ll need to look at where the low beam projector is. there is a number that is etched the same way. but why not do what the video that i posted a couple of years ago?

just to let you know, your rpo sticker is located on the spare tire cover. or it should be.

no. the ballast can be put wherever you can find room for it. find as flat as a spot as possible and mount it there. try using bolts or screws to mount it. the two way tape is ok but it will come loose after some time. even tie wrap it to something solid. also, keep it away from a spot where it may get wet. i know….that’s a given lol. good luck with the install. take some pics when it’s done.
