i recently ordered some new led bulbs for the dome lights in my 2008 silverado lt (crew cab). when i installed them they wouldn’t work and made the rest of the dome lights shut off. i tried flipping them around as led’s are polar sensitive and still nothing. so i removed the led’s and put the stock bulbs back in. after a few mins of the stock bulbs being in all the lights began working again. today when i was driving home from work the lights on my steering wheel shut off, then after a few mins the lights for the control switches on the left of the gauge cluster went out as well, then to make matters worse the lights for the buttons on my radio went off as well. now my dome lights don’t turn on when i unlock the car/ turn off off the car, or even when i rotate the switch to do so. the only way to activate the dome lights is to manually click the button located on the headliner. really annoying issue, not sure if this could be a fuse, relay and am not sure where i should start. any ideas would be greatly appreciated, i’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to the wiring and electronic system of my truck, so any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated.

thank you,

this would be nice to get an answer. i installed putco led dome lights in my 08 gmc crew. had them in for about 6 months with no trouble. i noticed they became dim when the individual light switches were pressed but were really bright when i turned them on with the light control by the headlight switch. i took the led lights and put the stock lights back in. they will turn on with the light switch by the headlight switch but will not turn on with the individual light switch. at night when the dash lights are on, if i turn on one of the dome lights the light does not come on and my whole dash goes dark. i thought it might fix by changing out the headlight switch with the dome light control. that did not work. next step is to follow the wiring and see where it goes. what fun

sorry to post a few months after the last time, but i’ve tried searching several forums, and it seems that we’re not alone with this problem. has anyone identified a resolution yet?

hey,

has anyone found the source of the problem? i am having the exact same issue? i may have accidentally touched one end of the bulb to the foil backing in the housing….

yup same problem here. they gave me a resistor to put on. that fixed my main problem(all dash lights would turn off when visor lights were opened, but visor lights would not turn on). but my visor lights still do not work. potentially a fuse that blew when i installed with out the resistor. still have to check and my 4wd drive orange indicator light turns out when i use dome lights. (it comes back on after awhile) this is pretty frustrating.

was hoping you guys had found a fix. i know leds usually need resistor but my visor lights won’t come on, steering wheel lights are dim, and when you want to use just one dome light it is so dim it bascily isn’t even on. please somebody find the answer. if i need resistors what kind are you guys using and did you put one for each of the four lights or just instal only one resistor?

well. a resistor fixed most my problem and the visor lights still wouldn’t work but i tolerated it. now i installed my 87 diablo tune again and all my dash lights were out ( night time). so i said screw the lights and put my stockers back in for now until there’s a solution or a different brand light that doesn’t give me problems

make sure y’all are checking your fuses in the inside fuse panel by the door. when i put in led domes they were dim and dimming my steering wheel lights. actually found out my brake lights weren’t working. the brake light fuse was blown and i believe they are connected to it. try checking those fuses. all of them. this fixed my issues and i do not have resistors on them. i don’t believe they are necessary if you have 12v led lights. which most plug and plays are. hope this helps and let us know if this works.

so my friend got his bulbs in his 2012 from superbrightled.com search for part number 4410-w1-cb . they have built in resistors and will represent the proper load to remove these affects in the othe lights. i called and confirmed this with the technical assistance. hope this helps you guys!

any update on this? i had ordered lights from hidguy.net. installed in dome lights. after this the steering wheel controls are not lit except for the phone button. put the regular lights back in but still nothing. all the dome lights function with no issues, halogen or led. so far seems to be only the steering wheel control lights. i will check fuses however. i was going to start a new thread but this seems the exact same issue.

checking all the fuses is your best bet.

and reinstall the light. while the truck is 100% off and the dome lights are off. i had this problem. replaced the fuse and reinstalled the light. and then it was all good
