it’s too block the sun. so why do you need one on a dirt bike and not on a street bike? dust from riding gets on your goggles and can cause glare in the sun. having the visit makes it easier to see into shady areas.

yup. and roost, branches, etc.

i’ve been riding and racing motocross since i was seven and never once used it to block the sun. if it’s low enough to actually block the sun, it’s more than likely limiting your field of vision. it’s just there for blocking roost.

if your goggles have enough dust on the lens that you have issues with the sun, try cleaning your goggles every so often. and if it’s just too bright, get a tinted goggle lens.

i have one on my dual sport helmet, and it makes a big difference when you’re riding into the sun. just tuck your head a little bit and the sun is out of your face. when i’m off road in the woods it also allows me to tuck my head and keep branches from going straight into my shied.

the only drawback is that it fights you when you get above about 65 miles per hour/100 kilometers per hour. after that it starts to pull pretty hard, so if i’m going on the highway, that helmet gets switched out for a road helmet.

it’s even worse on a full mx helmet. i ride on the highway with a dot compliant one, and after about 100km/hr your head is getting whipped around. it’s adjustable though, so i push the beak down as far as possible and it helps.

well, sun, yes. but also to dip and block roost from bikes in front, the occasional tree branch, etc.

you use your hat to block roost?

while most think it is to block the sun it is actually to protect your goggles. if your buddy is spraying up mud or dirt or water you can tuck your chin and that spay hits the peak instead of your face. same thing when riding through branches that are face height.

also it will help with the sun

it’s mainly for blocking roost. i don’t know where all of these people are getting the sun idea. that’s what tinted goggle lenses are for.

it helps prevent things falling directly on your goggles, specially roost, water, branches, birds, sun rays etc

it also works as a sail to keep your head up

i remember the motocross racers started using them in the 70s to block out dirt and rocks being thrown from the bike in front.
