I searched through the forum and couldn’t find a thread on how to take the headlight out and replace the stock bulbs with new super plasma gtxs. I have an 03 r1 and would like some instruction on how to do it and what not to do while in the process. My apologies if this is a stupid question, just don’t want to mess anything up. I am sure that it is easy, but just want to be absolutely positive.

Thanks in advance,

only important thing is to not touch the actual bulb, other than that just remove the rubber (pull ) then press on the metel lever and release the clip, then pull out, disconnect it, reconnect the new one, the put it back together

I guess to clarify I mean how do I get to the bulbs? Do I need to pop the headlight cover out? Take off the front cowling? Take off the wind screen?

You get at it from the back of the bulb, First thing to do is get the wireing harness clip off the bulb, by wiggleing it. Then you pull off the rubber cover. Next you will see a metal clip, the metal clip you just push on and rotate about an 1/8 o an inch to release it swing it back and pull the bulb out. To replace it do the same in backwards order. As you pull the bulb out, note the direction of the flanges on the outside edge of the bulb, and go from there, real easy!

Look below your instrument cluster to the left and right. You will see some really big rubber caps with plugs in the center. Pull these off, and then pull off the rubber caps. Then release the metal spring tensioner, and remove bulbs. Be sure not to touch the glass part of the bulb.

Now do everything in reverse order for installation.

There is no need to remove the upper cowling, headlight housing, etc…

Did it Wednesday, took ten minutes, new lights look great. The instructions above this are spot on. Easy as pie.

1. Remove the rubber seal the arrow is pointing to (tabs on it to squeeze, labeled ‘top’ for re-install).

2. Then there’s a plastic electrical connector to remove from the back of the bulb.

3. Next is the metal spring holding the bulb into the headlight itself. Spring has one end with a thumb-tab you push down/slide from under catch/remove, and the other end is fixed to the frame as a hinge.

4. Install new bulb, repeat process in reverse…

Hope that helps… If someone hasnt beat me to it!
