I’m assuming you mean the inner headlight housing right? If I were you I’d go with a really light grade sand paper just enough to scuff up the surface so the paint sticks. You might even be able to go with a scotch pad.

If you use a really rough sand paper you will get really deep scratches that will probably be visible after you paint it. Always start with the lightest and if it is not enough you can always go a little rougher.

i am thinking of maybe not even sanding, you can buy a primer made to stick to smooth plastic surfaces. I found a piece of plastic that resembles the properties of the headlight housing and i used some of the primer i found, and it stuck on there very nicely. 2 coats of satin black over it and it looks amazing. I am thinking maybe not sanding at all?

make sure you use some thinner or something to pull all the oil off the assembly…..

when u paint the headlight housing, u left out the projector lense and the reflector under it. Were those detachable? Or did u have to mask it? nice work btw.

all I used on mine for sanding was a scuff pad. Thats all that is needed sand paper if overkill plus it harder to use in the creases. All peices painted in that picture come out seprately. The most annoying part of the job for me was getting the hid bulb locked in.. booo Other then getting past the fact that your tearing apart very expensive and new headlights the job is easy, just take it virgin( nice and slow)
