seriously have to remove bumper to change headlight bulb?

like the tittle says, does the front bumper have to be removed along with the headlights to change the lightbulb. i want to install aftermarket hids but i really dont want to take my new car appart so soon. i know theres enough room in back of the headlight to possibly remove the lightbulb. is there another way to do this install. i searched, so dont tell me to search. i get so many different posts but non of them are really helpful. thanks in advanced for any info on this.

you don’t need to, but trust me, it’ll make life a hell of a lot easier by just taking the bumper off.

i know its not that hard to take off, but just the thought of taking off the bumper and headlights really gets to me. i know i can do it but i just keep on thinking that something is not going to align right and not be like it is now. on my old rsx i took off the headlight and bumper so many times that people around my apartment complex prob thought i was crazy. now that i have this new evo they are going to think
who im out of my mind to mess with it so soon, lol

i just recently helped to install an hid kit into an evo ix and there was no other way i could think of to change those bulbs than to remove the headlamps, and of course, you have to take off the bumper to take off the headlamps. there’s just not enough space.

after installing the headlight, is there any adjusting to do, or do you just pop it in and tighten the bolts. on my rsx there was a bolt on top, one on the side and one bolt under. the bottom bolt was a pain in the @ss to take off. one of the headlights ended up sticking out a little bit more than the other. another person might not notice but i sure as hell did. i dont want the same thing to happen to my evo.

i just changed my oem halogens to hid’s.

and yes, taking off the bumper will make everything a lot easier….first of all there’s nowhere else for u to mount the hid kits in the engine bay except under the headlight…

the bumper is very easy to take off. after doing it once or twice it’ll take u 10 min to take off, and 10 min to put on seriously have to remove bumper to change headlight bulb? - evolutionm - mitsubishi lancer and lancer evolution community

there’s diy threads about this stuff. just remember for the ix, the intercooler bolts are inside the two lil round covers above the ovals in the bumper….good luck mate.

we live pretty close, if u want i can help u out. not sure how, maybe if u’re around db just lemme know and drop by.

it’s all very simple. u take all the bolts out, take all the parts out, then put all the parts back on, and put all the bolts back on.

my front bumper and headlights have been on and off for more than 5 times, and they’re still very tightly assembled just like from the factory seriously have to remove bumper to change headlight bulb? - evolutionm - mitsubishi lancer and lancer evolution community

you can actually remove the headlight bulbs without taking off the front bumper. when i had to change mine i looked a website up.
1. jack up your car
2. remove the plastic in the wheel well by taking out the screws, or take out as many as you need to get your arm in there.
3. take out 2 top bolts on your headlight housing
4. disconnect the cable on the back of the bulb, rotate the bulb and pull it out as much as you can

this part helps if you have someone helping

Read more: 2012 Headlight Buld Replacement

5. where you removed the plastic in the wheel well you should be able to see and access the back of the bulb.
if you have someone helping, get them to pull slightly on the top of the headlight housing.
pull the bulb out, tilt down and pull out

if you don’t have anyone helping you can pop the top of the headlight housing out of the plastic slot where the bolts are.

ill try to find the website and post it. the website has pictures

i used to be able to take my rsx-s bumper off and on with my eyes closed practicly. it shouldn’t be difficult on the evo. plus it makes life easier to have more room to work with and less of a possibility that you scratch your bumper or drop a tool on it lol

did you ever get them in. depending on the type of bulb you might have to do this. on one set of bulbs i didn’t have to do this but on my 2nd i had to. on the passenger side i had to take out the bolt
who holds the headlight and the bracket
who hooks up the the plate behind the headlight bulb. once you take out those 2 bolts you should be able to push on the headlight assembly enough to get the bulb in there. its a pain but its better than taking off the front bumper
