I drove my father in laws 2500 the other day and noticed that button too. I thought it was the cab roof lights but i played around with it and whether the button was on or off the cab roof lights were always on? Maybe it was just something with his truck but I dont know

on this form on the home screen at the bottom there are links to owner manuals in the 2004 manual in section 3-17 it will tell you what that switch is for
here is a link.

Auxiliary Roof Mounted Lamp Switch
If your vehicle has this feature, this switch includes
wiring provisions for a dealer or a qualified service
center to install an auxiliary roof lamp.
This switch is located on
the center of the
instrument panel near the
comfort controls.
When the switch wiring is connected to an auxiliary roof
mounted lamp, pressing the switch will activate the lamp
and illuminate an indicator light near the switch. Pressing
the switch again will turn off the roof mounted lamp.
If your vehicle has this switch, your vehicle may have
the snow plow prep package. For further information see
“Snow Plow Prep Package².

Now that is rare. Real rare. Th at is a Delphi Assisted automated tampon removal system w/dispose capability. I believe there was a recall on this after a man sitting in the wrong seat activated it, and though the system wasn’t able to locate a tampon, it did however locate and remove a small extremity from the poor test subject

LOL.
Previously had a 2003 Sierra 2500 HD with this feature. As others have said it is part of the snow plow package. This is a heavy duty switch and has its own relay, this wiring is an ideal spot to hook up your aux lights. I was able to pull down the headliner on the driver’s side and route these wires down the piller to the under dash fuse box where I connected them to my aux lights mounted on my brush guard.
I just got a +61404532026hd and plan to do this again if I put a brush guard and lights on it. (This switch is now on the overhead console if you have it).

On my 2003, the wires were found up under the headliner. After pulling off the piller trim on the drivers side, I was able to pull down the headliner slightly and the wires were found. The wires were long enough to route them down the piller to the small fuse box on the side of the dash.
Not sure where the relay was, under the hood I think..good luck
