now on with the steps to get this installed…
Step 1: Remove any interior along the walls of your cargo van
To start, you will need to strip down your vehicle ’ s inside if you want the wires wholly covered. fortunately our van was a cargo van without any prior insulation so we ran our wires directly in trace with the brake lights .
Step 2: Remove the trim around the radio display
future, you will need to remove the snip around the radio display. You will need a Torx bit in summation to the spare removal creature to remove all of the pieces .
Step 3: Attach the video wire to the back of the radio
once you have the radio detached from the center cabinet, attach the video recording wire ( the wire with the aqua/green input connection ) to the fleeceable remark connection of the bet on of the radio .
Plug the aqua green connector to the green input on the back of the radio unit
Step 4: Run radio wire from the dash to back of the van
Remove the trim around the door and run it along the stock wires to the back of the van Run the wire from the center cabinet underneath the steering bicycle, then up over the door and toward the back of the van. I ran the telegram along the wires for the brake lights, turn signals, and reverse lights. I besides secured it with zip up ties .
Step 5: Detach the stock brake light from the van
After you run the wire, remove your master stock brake light. You will need a Torx screwdriver or drill bit to remove it. once you have it unscrewed you may need to pry it off with a trim removal tool and then disconnect the brake light telegram .
Use your trim removal kit to remove the actual unhorse from the red credit card cover and install it to your new camera backlight. You will reuse this luminosity for this install .
besides, don ’ t forget to clean off the gasket on the outside of the van and then apply your 3M weather gasket to the back of your new television camera brake faint .
Step 6: Connect the brake light wire and the display wire to the new camera brake light
Oops ! Almost forgot to mention, remove the lightly from your old brake light since we use it for the newly camera brake inner light. Once you have it removed, attach it to the new bracken light with the accompaniment television camera, you should hear a chatter make noise, then you know it ’ second batten.

Ok, once you cleaned off the old gasket, grab the brake light electrify and connect it to your new television camera brake light. besides, make certain to tuck the camera power electrify into the ensnare of your van so you can connect the display electrify as well .
Step 7: Screw the camera brake light to the frame
once you have the wires attached and fasten, apply the television camera to the back of the vanguard, removing the newspaper over the gasket ’ mho adhesive material and screw the television camera brake light to the vanguard with your Torx prison guard .
Step 8: Solder the Power Cable to Cigarette Lighter Power Line
once you have the wires attached to the television camera you need to install the world power cable television. I called Mid City Engineering and they recommended soldering the power electrify to the cigarette lighter. They recommended having a source of power when the vehicle is turned on and a connection that has changeless office ( rather than a brake light or something ) .
To get the water cup holder and cigarette light compartment out so you can see the wires, you need to use your reduce removal tools .
It was a very tight distance to solder which made it a pain in the butt joint, but it ’ s not impossible. You could besides use cable nuts or something exchangeable, but soldering is the recommend approach .
Step 9: Install the software through the OBD Installer
once you have world power running to the television camera, it ’ sulfur time to install the software to the standard display through the OBD connection. Mid City Engineering makes this superintendent easy for you providing an OBD connection that installs the software mechanically .
Simply spark plug in the adapter to the OBD connection and turn the power on ( preceptor ’ thyroxine turn the locomotive over, barely turn the electronics on ) for 60 seconds .
OBD reader is on the left side underneath the steering wheel You can turn the van back off and on and put the vehicle in change by reversal. once in reverse, you should see your backup camera display on the center console table .
Step 10: Install the trim back on the dash
once the software is installed and the television camera displays on the center cabinet, you ’ re all set. The stopping point step is the killing, reinstalling the pare around the radio receiver and securing everything back in place !
