View Full version : crop-dusting water on hot rotors causes them to warp ?
jncarnagez I was having this discussion with my friend as iodine was washiny my cable car … ..whenever im washing the wheels i directly spray the water system on the rotors for some odd reason … ..he says that by doing this one will cause the rotor to warp … .is this genuine ? … ..i know the rotor becomes identical hot from driving but one never felt and warpage on any cable car

Yes, you ‘re changing the temperature in the metallic very cursorily which can cause it to warp .
420sx Changes the properties of the metallic element. typically cooling steel quickly like that ( if theyre hot enough ) will cause them to become brittle.

in short.. Dont do that .
Elliott18t if you need proof put a relatively thin cookie sheet in a in truth hot oven and then throw water on it after you remove it and its dainty and hot …
twastheglow so in short, allow your car to completely cool before washing it. But that ‘s a rule of ovolo for washing cars anyhow .
jncarnagez belly laugh … … … there goes my exercise slotted rotors … … .thanks for the information everyone
420sx Doing it once might not do any wrong. The rotors have to be PIPIN blistering to actually warp them, so chances are youre all right, but its by and large something you want to avoid doing .
jncarnagez one would only feel the warpage once im braking right ? … nowadays literally driving and you feel it shaking … .cause that would be anything such as unbalance wheels, bad latent hostility rods, etc ? < -- -- -yes..that is a question jeffroevoix If you rotors are warped you would only feel it under braking. Chances are your brakes were not hot enough to do any major damage.
If you car is shaking and you are not on your brakes you have another problem, bent rim unbalance wheel electroconvulsive therapy
RedBowTies88 if the rotor ‘s are badly enough you can feel it under normal drive but thats rare. most likely a lost bicycle weight or out of round tire
Archie sol you guys are saying drive through car washes are badly as well chastise … … ( being the smarta )
jncarnagez

so you guys are saying drive through car washes are bad as well decline … … ( being the smarta )

you know i was thinking the lapp thing
420sx car wash doesnt spray directly onto your rotor, and youd have to go from 100-0mph and pull RIGHT into the carwash for it to be an issue, differently your brakes probably wont be hot adequate .
jncarnagez car wash doesnt spray directly onto your rotor, and youd have to go from 100-0mph and pull RIGHT into the carwash for it to be an issue, otherwise your brakes credibly wont be hot enough.

0-100mph … ..that person but of hit 18 psi and in truth wanted that car wash badly..lol
jncarnagez but if im washing the car and iodine spray the rotors smoke comes out the bicycle … … isnt that blistering enough for warpage or thats basically convention under even driving ?
420sx Thats steam.

And no. To cause unplayful warpage, your rotors need to be damn hot. Any brakes at normal operating temp will boil water when sprayed down. To cause dangerous price they need to be hotter than that. Unless you spray em down on a regular footing .
twastheglow You should n’t be taking your car through those car washes anyhow … unless you hate your car ‘s paint. LOL
delphinE30 while slightly on topic … .im so anal about my car ‘s clothing parts that i never come to a complete intercept ( unless flat roads where brake isnt need in a stick chemise ) because as the rotors get hot from applying them when you stop the pads are silent touching the rotor which allows no heat to escape so let off the brake and keep the rotors cool ….
thats just my short thing one do hahaha
jpalamar If you have ever done dishes after cooking … its the lapp idea .
Qwibby one guess we all start somewhere huh
scottsworld717 i estimate you should never drive your car in the rain and hit a pool then : thumbup :

gotvtec ? No wonder my brakes vibrate wtf ! !
