Not one. I was pissed, let me tell you. I wanted to go back and crack this guys head with my breaker bar, but obviously I didn’t. But that’s what you get with “mechanics”–they’re morons who are either just damn stupid or are trying to rip you off.

Technically I should not have failed the safety because I had more tread than the legal minimum, at every location, on every tyre; but, the clown at the shop just decided I shouldn’t pass so that was that. With brakes, it’s even more of a crapshoot because there is no legal measurable minimum. So really you could have brand new pads and the “mechanic” could fail you if they wanted (maybe they want to sell you a brake job or maybe they’re just unbeliveably stupid). The regs in Ontario are plainly stupid and not designed around safety at all, they’re merely designed for both the government and the garages to make $$$. Mechanics aren’t exactly going to get in trouble for failing you where they shouldn’t but they can for doing the opposite, or so they will tell you when you’re close to the limit–they don’t want to “lose their licence…blah blah”. Yeah right and then when it suits these losers they’ll pass anything like they do for/at all the shady-guy used car dealers that have cars certified that had no business being certified :rolleyes:

Your pads may well need replacement but at the same time they might not, and the “system” in-place for certifying vehicles in this province tells you nothing about whether they do need replacing or not, they just tell you about some *****’s opinion on the matter; one who is either too cracked out to know what they’re doing or just trying to make buck to support their habit.

People ask me why I don’t trust mechanics, and this horse doo doo is just another example of why. And what does the government do about any of this? Nothing. Why? Because they’re padding their pockets over the whole thing. :rolleyes: In Ontario ? In a nutshell it ‘s just up to the machinist. When I bought out the lease on my final car I had to base hit the cable car ( that requirement is nowadays gone but I was fair before the date where the police changed ). Anyway I had summer tyres on the car that were astir for refilling soon ( following season ) but they were NOT however below the 2/32nds ( 1.5mm ) wear bars. well the clown I took it to, would n’t pass it stating the tyres were below the clothing limit. I had to go dwelling, swap my wheels to my winters and come back to fall. I figured the tyres were close sol possibly one or two of them had worn under the bars. Well while I was at home changing the wheels, I inspected each tire as I took it off. not one tire barroom on any of the four tyres, I think a total of 16 per tire, had the tread below it..
