i have a 2006 dts. when the headlights turn on, about 80% of the time only one headlight comes on. it can be either the left or the right, which ever one decides not to come on. you trun the lights off and back on manually and both lights will come on. this happens both in auto mode or manual mode.

also note another problem. when i push the map light on, it will come on for about 10 seconds, then it will go on and off a few times and then will stay out.

any suggestions would be nice.

sounds like maybe a bad ground somewhere since there are two issues… and both of them are related to the lights.

if still under warranty… i think i would take it back to the dealer and let them do some wire tracing on it.

i experience the same thing with my headlights. i took it to the dealership and explained the same thing, they said they checked it out and found no problem.

the electrical on dts’…at least ’06 models is a little shabby, my buddy who has an ’06 dts as well experiences some odd electrical things. if you find anything it out let me know.

i own an 06 dts and the headlights seem to be flashing off and on when the outside temperature is low. it’s hard to tell if it is one or both lights as we see it on open road driving in the dark. recently the right headlight burned out and the ballast looked burned so both were replaced. it then seemed ok for a week or two, now the flashing has returned.

sounds like a grounding issue if the ballasts have already been replaced.

have a similar problem with a 06 dts. right headllight goes out after a few minutes. if i turn it back on it will only stay on for another few minutes. the left headlight also went out once, not all the time. dealer says i must replace both at $1k each. does this sound right and is there any alternative?

i wonder if the head lamp switch in the dash is the real culprit. until i get to a hard failure, i will run the fog lights when the headlamps start acting up, just in case. switching to manual from auto headlamps seems to bring the lamp back on at times.

hi im new at this but im also having the same problem with my 06 dts passenger side headlight. i looks like one of the little lights has gone out and wondering if that would cause the problem to flicker every once in a while. i have to manually turn them off and on so that it stays on. another thing is that to change the damm thing i have to basically rip off the whole bumper because i can’t get to the lights themselves. is there an easier way. i really don’t want to take it to the dealer thats way too much $$$.

does anyone have the part number for the newer ballast, which fixes the issue in the tsb? i cannot seem to find it anywhere and it looks like my headlights are going to give up sometime soon. saturday night, one went out and then the second while driving. i close the lights and turn them back on and it seems to alleviate the problem temporarily. other times she does just fine. i am a bit concerned this will happen on the interstate in a stretch where there isn’t lighting and my lights never come back on.

if no forum member has that part information, caddymak, i would definitely recommend consulting with your dealer to see if they would provide that information for you. (i double checked my resources, and unfortunately i cannot access that information. apologies!)

thanks jim

as far as i know the current part number is the number from the bulletin … you cannot order the old part number anymore (for good reason… there were problems with them)

as jim said, email, call or pm me with you vin and i’ll see what i can do…

[edit] scratch that … the vin will not likely help much

there are two designs for 2006 and you will have to visually id the ballast you have by how many screws hold it to the bottom of the headlamp (3 or 4)

the first design is the one that was involved in the bulletin (i think)

i recently replaced 1 headlight bulb that would go out after being on for a few min. it’s on time was getting progressively shorter. based on info. here i did the bulb only & it has been fine since. ordered from autopartsway # osr1647934. they called it a low beam bulb but it’s high also. they also had ballast. it took my retired mech. friend 4 1/2 hrs. to change it. 2 bolts broke off in headlight housing.
