direction of little arrow on headlight glass - rennlist - porsche discussion forums direction of little arrow on headlight glass

on the 993 headlight glass, there is a arrow between the letters hcr 04 and 2622/2620
for both headlight (l and r) on my cab 1995 rivera blue, the arrows are pointing to the right.

it this normal ?

i am homologating my (us) car to be able drive it in france.

i
witnessed a guy at the ‘french homologation centre’ this morning annoying me with this.

he said, the arrow (on the left headlight) should be pointing to the right and the arrow (on the right headlight) should be pointing to the left… direction of little arrow on headlight glass - rennlist - porsche discussion forums

do you know if he is right ? direction of little arrow on headlight glass - rennlist - porsche discussion forums

appears to be normal – both of mine are pointing to the right as you mention.

pointing to the driver’s side so you know you’ve got the right lenses for a lhd vehicle perhaps? just a guess. i’d have to see rhd lenses to confirm that.

according to daniel stern’s website on automobile lighting regulations …

here is how to read ece traffic-direction markings:

→ low beam is suitable only for use in left hand traffic (e.g., britain, australia, africa, japan)

[no arrow] low beam is suitable only for use in right hand traffic (us, canada, continental europe, scandinavia, russia, etc.)

↔ low beam is adaptable for use on either side of the road (many projector lamps and older reflector high/low lamps)

the traffic-handedness marking applies only to low-beam headlamps.

many thanks

does this mean that i have :

→ low beam is suitable only for use in left hand traffic (e.g., britain, australia, africa, japan)

as my arrows are pointing to the right ?

strange for a us car that was imported by pannhorst in germany then sold back to me ???

^^^ as far as my little google research has uncovered, the short answer is yes. if it makes you feel any better, my car has the same arrows pointing to the right and i did replace them in 2010 with new “o.e.m.” units. i suspect the u.s. 993 parts market has been pushing rhd lenses on us ….

i’m going to check the ‘beam pattern’ on mine this afternoon, but theoretically, on a lhd lens, the low beam projection should be flat with a 15 degree (or so) ‘up angle’ to the right at the end of the beam spread. the rhd lens would be the opposite.

if they bother you about that, swap side, the lens pops out of the headlight. and put them back afterwards if you want.

lenses are not drive specific although the usa version does have an extra piece of plastic inside that the row ones do not have. no idea what it does.

i have to check on my 98 s (built for the german market) the direction of the arrows on the headlight

i’ll swap them with the cab, just for the (new) inspection

but, i am awaiting for their report first….

it seems 911pervy and jpp are not on the same ‘light’ ?

thanks anyway for your research and time
