I have read many many complaints of this on going problem both on this website and in other forums. Failure Date: 09/16/2016
The head lights go out while driving. No warning signs, you lose all headlights. If the switch is turned on and off several times they will come back on. My lights went off while I was driving down a county highway going 55 mph. There were no street lights. It happened a total of 4 times on my 40 minute drive home through the country. Very scary!.

5 Headlight Switch problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 09/05/2016
Can turn on headlights, then one goes out, blink off and on then go off completely or don’t come on at all when turned on. Happens when stationary or in motion. Switch is good. Headlights replaced. Have been told by the mechanic that I have to replace the defective tipm (totally integrated power module) that tested bad. Have read multiple reports of the same issue. This is definitely a safety issue when driving!.
6 Headlight Switch problem of the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 03/12/2016
I pulled out of a well lighted gas station at night and my instrument panel lights come on automatically so I assumed my headlights were also on . As I proceeded to rt 50 and made the right turn, it was pitch black except for the dash lights which were fully lit . The problem was I couldn’t find the switch to turn on the headlights because with the headlights off, the switch wasn’t illuminated. I was now in a serious panic. I was moving slow but couldn’t see the road or where I was in the road! I finally came to a complete stop. I was afraid someone was going to hit me from behind. My wife and I could have been killed! I finally found the switch after about a minute. This has also been a problem while driving at dusk and the dash lights come on automatically and as it gets darker you don’t realize your headlights aren’t on. One time a friend was following us and called us on the cell phone to let us know our lights weren’t on! note: we drove a 2000 caravan for 14 years and knew to turn on the headlights when we couldn’t see the instrument panel. Same with all my veichles before that. We’ve been conditioned , that’s how it works.

7 Headlight Switch problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 10/08/2015
The headlights go out intermittently. It has done it while driving, both on streets and the highway, or parked in the driveway. While investigating this issue, I have found, on your site and others, that this problem is not a new occurrence. This bothers me that just because no major injuries have been attributed to this problem, that this safety issue has not been addressed. We took our van to our mechanic who told us he could try to replace the headlight switch, which we have done, but we need to try replacing tipm, but at a price tag of $600-700, it is still not a guarantee and it is on national, or from the words of a person at the dealership – galactic, backorder with no date as to when to expect the part to be in. We called a local dealer to find out who to complain to and we were told we needed to verify the part was on backorder, which we did and it is. Chrysler told us that they are not responsible to correcting the matter and all attempts to fix the issue are our responsibility. Our concern is that we can no longer safely drive our car in the rain, when our headlights need to be on or at night, if we cannot be assured the lights will work the entire time we are out. We are thankful that during the times it has gone out, we were able to safely get off the road. As for your question at the bottom of the page about when this has happened, the most recent date was last night, when my wife needed to go to a meeting and the headlights would not turn on, so she had to take my vehicle.
8 Headlight Switch problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 09/03/2015
The headlights intermittently work, but mostly do not light up whether turning on the headlights using the main switch. When attempting to turn on the headlights, the lights will flicker several times and then go out. My wife was driving home from the grocery store and the police pulled her over and asked why she was driving down the interstate at night with her headlamps off. My wife noticed, but thought a headlamp had burned out. My wife setup an appointment at a experienced mechanic who shot the wires and did not identify any issues with the headlamp switch assembly or the wires. We have an appointment with Dodge dealership in a few days, however, reading online this is a problem that could entail a circuit deficiency within the total integrated power management (tipm) module. We just purchased the van from a Toyota dealership 2 months ago and this is very unacceptable that the headlights intermittently work. The van is grounded from operation at night and during inclement weather conditions as this is a very unsafe condition.
9 Headlight Switch problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 08/06/2015
The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving 60 mph, the low and high beam head lamps were activated, but failed to illuminate. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
11 Headlight Switch problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 10/08/2014
Headlights turn off unexpectedly while driving. Service tested headlight system and did not experience any abnormalities. Performed diagnostic scan and found stored low beam and high beam “control circuit low”. Cleared stored trouble codes and replaced headlight switch as a likely cause of symptom described. Headlight turned off again unexpectedly while driving in the rain.
12 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 04/17/2014
Headlight switch shut off lights while driving. Now will leave lights on while in the off position and they will turn off but sound will beep as if they are on. This is a major safety issue and should be recalled!!.
13 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 03/07/2014
Headlights went out while driving at night. Had to fiddle with the on off switch repeatedly to get them to come back on. Could not get issue to replicate.
14 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 11/07/2013
My headlights will go out completely while I am driving. They also flash off and on while I am driving. They flash at other drivers as if I am signaling them to pull out in front of me, one time almost causing an accident in front of my daughters school. I also have incidents where I cant turn them on at all, or can’t turn them off when I park and shut off my car. I will park my car and shut off the lights and when I open the door, the door chime will ring as if I have left them on. They turn themselves on in the middle of the day while I am driving even though the switch in in the off position. My parking lights and dash lights flash by themselves (at random) at all hours of the day and night. We have already replaced the headlight switch and it did not correct the problem.
15 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 11/01/2013
The headlights function intermittently with the switch and also turn off intermittently while driving even though the headlight switch remains on. Turning the switch on and off multiple times sometimes will cause the headlights to turn back on but not always. Sometimes the headlights will turn back on by themselves.
16 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 10/30/2013
The parking lights turn on and off randomly when the vehicle is off. When the vehicle is running, the parking lights don’t operate properly using the light switch–e. G. The parking lights stay on when turned off. Cycling the switch several times can turn the parking lights off. Our car was manufactured late in December 2005 according to Dodge. This appears to be related to NHTSA action # ea11010. Dodge has refused to cover the headlight switch assembly (hsa) under what should be a lifetime warranty. The hsa has been replaced at owners expense and the problem appears to be fixed. We saved the defective part.
17 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 06/01/2013
Vehicle headlights intermittently turn off even though the headlight switch is in the on position. Headlights are able to be turned back on by cycling the switch off and on multiple times. Sometimes headlights flicker on and off intermittently even though the headlight switch remains in the on position. This has been a problem according to a previous investigation by your organization. The investigation number ea11010. Your findings showed this problem occurring with this particular make model and year of vehicle. It also indicated that Chrysler corporation was going to initiate a lifetime warranty on the headlight switch assembly for this particular vehicle. It indicated that this was going to start sometime in early 2013. I contacted Chrysler corporation service and they indicate that there is no warranty or known problem on that particular headlight switch assembly. When I referred them to your site and the particular investigation and conclusion in regards to this issue they indicated that this was not a known problem and just because it was on the internet does not mean that is true. The identified issue and problem with the headlight switch assembly will not be taken care of under warranty according to Chrysler corporation. This seems to be in direct conflict with what Chrysler corporation told your organization that they were going to do which was to place this part under a lifetime warranty beginning sometime early 2013.
18 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 02/20/2013
The headlights would not turn on. The parking lights would come on, but not the headlamps. Turning the switch/dial turned them off, and turned on parking lights, but nothing else. The switch would turn all the way, but nothing. Then the parking lights wouldn’t go off at all. Then I got the headlights to come on after messing with the switch for a while. The headlights came on the next day. It seems to be an intermittent problem. . . There are a lot of posts about this problem online. There should be a recall. This is very unsafe.
19 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 11/08/2012
I got in the vehicle at night. Turned on headlights and they would not come on. Played with switch and they flashed on. Driving down the road they went out and I had to pull over and play with the switch to get them to come back on. They are now, 2 weeks later, at the point that I cannot drive at night. They will not stay on, flash on then go off within a few seconds. After doing research I have found this to be a very common problem with this make and model. Very dangerous!.
20 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 10/22/2012
The headlights went out by themselves during night highway driving at ~64mph! this was an extremely dangerous situation as I had my wife and 3 children in the van. Completely unacceptable. I had to pull off the highway during heavy traffic, and cycle the headlight switch 6-10 times to get the headlights to illuminate again. Even after that, they would intermittently go out/come on for the duration of out trip home. This is a serious vehicle safety issue.
21 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 05/02/2012
Headlights will randomly decide not to come on, or go off after car has been running. Parking lights, brake lights and directionals con’t to work. Turning the lamp switch on and off a few times does not work. This has happen approximately 4 or 5 times over the last two months. Most recently on June 29 @ 10pm, had been driving on the highway with no incident. Off the highway stopped at a convenience store, after turning car back on and driving a few feet, on an unlit road the headlights went off, had to pull off to the side and shut car off and then restart, this is the only way they seem to come back on, the switch is not effective.
22 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 03/01/2012
Sometimes, my headlights won’t turn on when I start the vehicle (the dashboards lights are still on when this happens). I usually solve the problem by switching the light switch on and off. The problem not only is fixed that way, but it goes away for months at a time and is quite random and mysterious. I am just concerned about the lights frying or suddenly turning off while the car is moving because I work evenings and often commute on the highway. Not only that, but after doing some research it appears quite a few people have this problem. It seems to be a known, mysterious glitch with Dodge caravans from the same year. I get regular oil changes, always pass inspections, and the mechanics never find major issues with the battery, engine, or the headlights themselves. And they usually tell you that the car needs to be present in their shop while the problem is happening, which due to the random, intermittent nature of the problem is nigh impossible to do. It’s a very strange problem, but there must be some cause if so many people driving similar cars have had similar complaints.
23 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 02/08/2012
2005 Dodge Grand Caravan headlight switch will not turn the lights on. You have to keep turning the switch to make it turn on. As you are going down the road at night the lights will flash or they will just turn off.
24 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 01/13/2012
My head lights turned off on me after night fall. I had to continually turn them on and off several times before they began to work again. Then as I headed home, they flashed on and off. The brights will not stay on either. If I need to run with the brights on when the regular head lights donâ??t work, I have to continually hold the brights in the forward on position. If they headlight work properly, then the bright work properly as well. My fog lamp go on and off all by themselves and I flicker and flash all down the road. The Chrysler dealership here said it is a common problem and in their experience it is the switch at $100 just for the part. Labor is more. If it is so common, then where is the recall? I have had so many problems with this van since I purchased it. Sticking gas pedal, shuttering breaks, and the abs light. All these were huge repair cost out of my pocket. I recently put over $4000 in repair to this van. Right now I cannot afford a $100 part plus labor. Recall please!.
25 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 01/04/2012
Headlights only work sporadically. At times, they won’t turn on at all (running lights and rear lights still work) and it often takes several tries to get them turned on. Holding the lever activates the high beams, which still work. Early this morning, they simply failed while I was driving down a busy road in the dark. Extremely unsafe. Research indicates a recurring problem with the switch as my exact issue has been detailed by many, many individuals. As big as a safety issue as this is, it’s hard to imagine how this hasn’t spawned a recall.
26 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 12/13/2011
When I got to work and went to turn the headlights off. The lights shut off but it kept dinging like they were still on. I turned the switch on then off again and it still kept dinging and the smaller headlights came on and didnt shut off after I had shut off lights. I had to go back and do the same thing with the light switch and then they finally shut off. This has happened on several other occations.
27 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 10/05/2011
The headlights will go on and off at any time. This happens while driving or while parked for the night. I have replaced the headlight switch on three occasions, first only the switch, next the switch and battery, and then finally the switch and alternator. Each repair lasts for a few months then the problem returns. This is a very unsafe condition as it happens at night driving. As this is an intermittent issue I cannot get a true diagnosis.
28 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 08/28/2011
Headlights either will not turn on or go out while driving. Parking and tail lights not effected. Flipping switch on and off will sometimes work. Updated ivoq 10/19/11.
29 Headlight Switch problem of the 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 08/12/2011
Vehicles headlights intermittently will not turn on. There have been multiple times when the lights worked fine when leaving the house and then would not turn on when leaving to return home. This has caused us to drive home on multiple occasion with no headlights, obviously a very dangerous situation. We have taken it to multiple mechanics and have not had anyone find a problem, they always seem to work when we take it in. We replaced the switch to no avail. We simply do not drive it when we think we will be out after dark. There seems to be a lot of other people with this same problem online, please make Dodge find and fix this problem.

30 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 07/08/2011
Headlights spontaneously extinguish while operating the vehicle on an intermittent basis. Initial activation of the headlight switch sporadically fails to activate headlights, or activation is delayed by several seconds. Toggling the switch will occasionally return function to the headlights. These incidents occur daily.
31 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 06/22/2011
Driving down the road. Headlights went off and could not get them to come back on by turning on the headlight switch. How can I be expected to drive in the dark without headlights?.
32 Headlight Switch problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 06/15/2011
Headlights started with a flickering and random shut off, now no regular headlights but high beam come on for a second when you switch them on but won”t stay on. Multiple attempts to fix at 2 dealerships. Possible problem frount module but no part available nationwide to even try to fix it. Told by dealership used part would mess up “brain” on vehicle so used part not option either.
33 Headlight Switch problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 04/30/2011
The headlights will randomly go out. Once in a while switching to high beam will help for a very short time, but usually I am completely without lights when it happens. There is no warning. The running lights do not even work anymore when that happens. I have been in a number of extremely dangerous situations because of this. I end up having to hope I can find a place to pull off the road, without being hit first, and turn the car off and on again until the lights finally work. Nothing else stops working, just the lights. There are so many complaints all over the internet for so many different model years I can’t believe this hasn’t been recalled yet.
34 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 04/24/2011
Low beam headlamps intermittently don’t work. When this occurs, the high-beams will work only by holding back the stalk. Turning the headlight switch on and off a few times seems to fix the problem temporarily.
35 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan
Failure Date: 04/13/2011
The headlights switched themselves off while I was driving after dark. Ever since then, the headlights and/or parking lights go on and off intermittently by themselves.
