While driving, headlights turn off on my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The problem can be fixed by turning headlight switch off and on several times. 38 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/18/2011

Randomly, head lights do not turn on, have to turn the switch on & off multiple times to get them to come on eventually. Also, on days when having problems with headlights turning on, after you get them to turn on they shut off as you are driving down the road. We have not fixed them, Chrysler dealership told me it could be the switch or the electrical components, they didn’t know?!!!!!.

39 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/14/2011

Since purchase, the headlights have randomly stopped working. The dealer couldnt replicate the action. At this point, the headlights were not turning off unless the switch was wiggled. Now the headlights work sporadically, and the parking lights will not go off when switch is in off position. They do however go off over time. We will try replacing light switch to see if this resolves the problem. This is a concern for us with teenage drivers using the vehicle!.

When driving at night, the headlights will come on and off and flash for no apparent reason. Lights will completely turn off and then when you turn the switch on and off again, the lights work again on and off. You will be driving down a dark road and the lights will just turn off. This happened last year for a few days or so and then worked fine for a few months then started turning off again. This is a very dangerous situation. I believe this has been reported by more people having the same issue. We have three children that ride in the van and my wife also drives every night delivering the newspaper.

47 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

The headlights do not operate as expected. Sometimes they do not illuminate when the switch is rotated to headlight position, sometimes the headlights flicker while driving, sometimes the headlights shut off automatically while driving. The problem has been intermittent since about 6 months after the vehicle was purchased but frequency has increased drastically in the last 3 month. Now the operation of headlights has become completely unreliable yet difficult to troubleshoot because failure cannot be reproduced on demand (I. E. Headlights function properly when at dealership).

Headlights intermittently fail to illuminate when rotary switch is placed in on position. Multiple rotation of the switch from off to on position is required to get headlights to illuminate. In some cases, 20+ tries were required. I am afraid that complete failure may happen and make vehicle undriveable if it occurs at night. Online forums indicate that this is a fairly common problem.

50 Headlight Switch problem of the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/30/2010

My van is a 2002 and it has the drivers side light out while the passenger stays on. When I pull the high beem switch the passenger side goes out and the drivers side comes on. My bad light changes sides as I click the dimmer switch. I have replaced the dimmer switch, and both headlights and that did not fix the issue. If you hold in the dimmer switch when the lights are on bright, both the bright light on one side and the dim light on the other side are on.

58 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/25/2010

The headlights on my 2006 Dodge caravan have been intermittent on a half dozen occasions since I purchased it new. In all instances, by jiggling (turning on/off) the switch, I have gotten the lights back on. The last incident was on 01/25/2010 coming home in a snowy (white out) conditions in iowa and my lights went out completely. I was able to get them back on in a relatively short period of time, but could not see the road, etc. , because of the snowy white out conditions. Could very well have resulted in an accident of major injury. I see many posts on the internet related to this same problem on various Dodge/Chrysler Mini vans of various years.

59 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/11/2010

[external_link offset=2]

Our head lights would not come on. After turning the switch on and off several times they would come on. Now when driving down the highway they will start going on and off then completely go off. I have to travel a lot at night for my work. If you pull the dimmer/wiper switch toward you and hold it the high beam will come on but will not stay on. Now I am afraid to go any where after dark. Have called several Dodge garages service departments and when ask if they think replacing the switch could fix the problem they tell you, well you can bring it in and we can try that but can’t guarantee that will fix your problem. Why should we pay to replace something that they don’t know what the problem is. We believe that Dodge should have recall since there is so many of the same problems with other owners evidently there is a defect in the switching of the headlights and this is a serious problem.

60 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

61 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/02/2009

The headlights on my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan won’t come on sometimes when I turn the switch and once they have even gone out on me while I was driving down the road. If I turn the switch back to off and then on again they will come on but this is a problem that makes me worry. Now I’m on edge when I drive at night wondering when it’s going to happen again. Last night for the first time my lights went from bright to dim on their own. They just changed while I was driving down the road. I have not had this looked at yet. The van isn’t under warranty anymore and we know it’s going to cost a fortune just to have it looked at.

63 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/05/2009

I own a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan which I bought used in 2005. The headlights have been going off intermittently since aprox. 4 months after I bought it. The dealers shop said they couldn’t find anything wrong. The issue is very random with problem not occurring for 2-3 months at a time, then multiple times, then won’t occur again for a couple of weeks. If I turn the light switch off when I park, sometimes the parking lights won’t turn off or will randomly come on. Two nights ago, the light switch was completely off and the headlights briefly came back on before shutting off. There is nothing that seems to trigger the problem. To resolve it while driving, I have to turn the light switch on and off several times before the lights will come back on. This has happened numerous times while I’ve been driving at night. I contacted the customer service at Dodge they recommended I take it in when the problem is occurring- unfortunately, it doesn’t happen all the time and I only know of it happening at night and they’re closed. It’s becoming more of an issue since I have 2 teenaged children that drive it with my 2 yr old in the car. I researched the issue online and there are numerous other people with the same problem. This vehicle needs to be recalled.

64 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/06/2009

The headlights and parking lights started to randomly turn on and off. Now the parking lights won’t go off and the headlights will not go on. No matter how many times I flip the switch. This is awful and dangerous, as I can’t drive at night. The windshield wipers also will not turn on. This is ridiculous and I can’t find any help.

65 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/17/2009

Purchased 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan used in oct, 2005. Vehicle had approx. 9000 miles on odometer. Four months later the headlights would only work intermittently. Mileage was approx 13,500 miles. Dealer replaced dashboard switch under warranty. Approx. One year later headlight problem returned. . . Very intermittent. . So continued driving. Another year later, driving at night, on vacation, 2000 miles from home, headlights went out. Switching light switch on-off numerous times fixed lights temporarily. Lost lights several times that night. Texas dealer diagnosed bad switch. Replaced at approx 52800 miles. Paid for this repair. One year later switch again inop. Mileage approx 67700 miles. Lights will not work at all. Cannot drive car at night. This makes three times in three and a half years of ownership that headlights become inoperative. Internet search brings up hundreds of others with similar complaints. Dealer says no reported problems with caravan headlights and car is out of warranty. Owner responsibility. This car has documented problem with headlights. Something not right here.

While driving at night, headlights go off. Sometimes will come on after a few seconds and sometimes after turning switch off and on. 69 Headlight Switch problem of the 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 12/10/2008

Headlights turn off intermittently during operation. This is very disconcerting and dangerous. Driver must flip the light switch multiple times to bring the lights back on. The frequency of this problem has increased recently. I feel that the vehicle is unsafe and unreliable. Recently, the headlights would not come back on and we had to drive home using the fog lamps.

70 Headlight Switch problem of the 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/20/2008

Headlight problem: vehicle has daytime running lights. With headlights off, driving with daytime running lights only the left headlamp is illuminated. When the headlights are turned on the low beam on the rh side illuminates, but not the left. When the headlights are switched to high beam, the lh lamp illuminates but the rh does not. Internet chat discussions indicate this is a very common problem. I first noticed this problem a week ago and replaced the headlight bulbs, which did not solve the problem. I will now try a solution to improve the connections from the control module to the fuse block, as indicated by several contributors to an online discussion forum.
