i installed an ez wiring harness in the 56 1/2 ton. i,m having a senior moment regarding the dome light wiring. the harness has a white wire coming from the fuse panel, it is a constant hot. i wired it to the prong on the headlight switch for dome light return. there is a black wired ground (?) prong on the headlight switch
who is hot when the switch is turned on ? i have no door switch and just want to be able to turn on the dome light with the headlight switch. can someone tell me how to wire this? thanks

iirc, both the dome hot and ground connect to the headlight switch and only activate when the gauge dimmer goes past full-bright. there are particular terminals on the headlight switch for the dome light power/ground specifically for this purpose. it is clearly shown in the shop manual in the electrical section, don’t have mine handy tho…

good luck!

thanks, the white was labeled dome light return, kind of threw me. so white wire from fuse panel goes to the dome light, and return wire comes back to headlight switch? don’t know why i’m not getting this, to much coffee….

normally the white wire, from the fuse panel is hot all the time and goes to the dome light. then from the dome light there is an orange wire that would go to all door jam switches (if installed) and to the head light switch. any of these switches will complete the circuit to ground and illuminate the dome light. in newer applications, i believe the dome light fuse will also power the brake lights, this way if the dome light fails you know your brake lights have failed as well.

there should be a tap on the head light switch
who will normally be open, then go to ground when the knob is turned past full bright for the dash lights. just remember, when the orange wire gets grounded, the circuit is complete and the dome will light.
