Hello! I have been lurking for some time now, and I finally purchased a 2010 FX 35 about two weeks ago. I wanted to change up the lights right away but I was unsure about whether to use a 6000k HID bulb or a 8000K HID bulb. I tried both and here are results for your comparison. (BTW I chose to go with the 6000k color, and I ordered a 6000k HID conversion kit for the fog lights, I’ll post pictures when I get that done)

Here are the bulbs, the 6000K are in the box, both sets were purchased off of ebay.

Here is a picture with the stock bulb on the left side and the 8000k on the right side (my garage is almost white so it gives a good idea of the actual light color)

Here is a picture with the 6000k on the left and the 8000k on the right (look very similar but the 6000k is actually a bit brighter)

Finally here is a pic with both sides using the 6000k bulbs which is what i ended up staying with

6000K is much brighter than 8000K, more noticeable driving with no street lamps or city lights.

Good choice.

To my knowledge 1st & 2nd gen FX do come with stock HID bulb headlights.

Is there a need to upgrade them?

I’ve noticed that stock HID do not seem to have that typical luxury high end crisp bluish colour that I like so much

How strong is the stock bulb wattage anyways?

Besides that your upgrade looks killa

35 Watt.

OEM is around 4,300K. No need to upgrade, it is the brightest lumen output. To get the bluish color, you either need to buy a clear lens, or mod your lens with a spacer.

The easiest way is buying a 6,000K D2S bulb to get the blue look, but you are sacrificing lumens (i.e. brightness) and it IS noticable that you are getting less light output.

Luxury cars all use 4,300 OEM, it’s the quality of the projectors and lenses etc… that create the look.

Not wanting to hijack the thread actually I am bumping it with a related OP story:

I did some searching and it seems I am not the only crazy one:

When I see an FX come up behind me, it takes a second for me to realize that the lights are HID’s. Where as on any BMW/Acura/Audi…etc you can instantly tell their HID’s.

Maybe it’s cheesy to some but it’s an esthetic feature I like. FX HID dare I say it almost look like Halogen ?

Opting for the 6000k’s would provide less useable light

Do not want to play/change the angle of the headlight

It’s that blue mountain that you see on the road that has that nice color flicker.

Although you do lose a little usable light by going up to a higher temp, HIDs in general are a lot brighter than regular bulbs which is why I felt ok about going up to 6000k. In my old IS350, the stock bulb was not HID, and I did the same sort of comparison with an HID kit, and at the time I went with an 8000k HID bulb, even that temp was brighter than the stock non-HID bulb.

In my opinion, the 6000k bulbs are not noticeably dimmer than the stock bulbs and they look better.
