Luckily, Carista has the right tool for you.
just go into SERVICE → “ Electronic parking brake service ” and you ’ ll find Carista ’ s easy-to-use 1-click EPB instrument.
Here are the step-by-step instructions:
- make sure vehicle is parked on level ground
- turn ignition on
- disengage parking brake with the center console button (you have to press the brake pedal for that)
- take your foot off the brake pedal and don’t touch it again until the end of the procedure
- open EPB with Carista; if you get an error saying that there are intermittent communication issues, you have most likely NOT followed one of the steps above. Turn the ignition off and back on, make sure the EPB is disengaged and your foot is off the brake pedal and try again
- turn ignition off
- replace brakes; note that even though the rear calipers are “released”, they will not physically push themselves open; you still have to push the pistons open manually, but it shouldn’t require any abnormal amount of force
- reassemble everything completely
- turn ignition on, but do not press the brake pedal
- close EPB with Carista
- at this point, it’s ok to press the brake pedal again and cycle the EPB on and off a few times with the center console button
- use the DIAGNOSE button in Carista (on the EPB screen) to check for faults in the EPB module and reset them if there are any
- start the engine and start driving slowly and carefully; make sure the brakes work and feel as expected (the first press may feel soft, but after that it should be back to normal)
- if you get any warning lights, check and reset EPB fault codes with Carista again and cycle your ignition
