you’re best off getting quotes for yourself since the difference companies sometimes weight different factors differently. so geico might be better for you and progressive better for me, etc. geico and progressive are two of the bigger national companies. there are several smaller companies out there that might operate in your state though. if you have a car see if they have coverage or a partnership. i have auto insurance and home owners insurance through the same company. they don’t do motorcycle insurance but they have a partnership with progressive so i still get a multiple policy discount.

my insurance is through rider insurance. depending on what state you live in, rider had the best rates and coverage for me. check them out:

that’s who i use through harley davidson insurance. no one has been able to come close to their rates. the agent who handles my home and car insurance had me send him a copy of the policy because it couldn’t believe how cheap it was for the coverage. they were literally 1/2 the cost of the best he could do anywhere else.

i also got a 10% discount check back for having completed the brc.

i agree with that too… they give me discounts for the safety ridding course, for having motorcycle license endorsement, for being in the ama (american motorcyclist association)… its cheaper than all others i have quoted.

i quoted allstate, farmers, geico, mutual, progressive and pacific specialties insurance company. note: pacific specialties insurance company is cheaper than all the previous but i google it a little bit and i found nothing but bad reviews and awful experiences of customers of all kind, such as people that was 20 years being customers and at the first accident the company was so rude and find many excuses for not paying anything…

i would recommend go safeco… cheaper and is the best on customer service and claims are solved so quick and smooth….

i’m an insurance agent in nv. call around – every state and city is different. i represent safeco as one of my companies and they’re okay but progressive is better and geico is better yet right now. in other parts of the country dairyland is the best… there really is no “best price” since there are so many factors. feel free to ask me anything you need to know – i’m happy to help in any way i can

i’ve never experienced poor service from any of my carriers, so i am speaking of price.

safeco is an excellent company overall and when i have a client that has multiple policies (home, auto, cars, umbrella…) in addition to a motorcycle then safeco is a good way to go. they typically are not a player for a single vehicle household, stand alone motorcycle, younger driver/rider etc. it gets complicated and every person/situation/location is different. its not a rule, just a guideline.

all i have them for is a single motorcycle. they are literally less than half the rate of progressive for the same coverage, and they provide towing.

again; it depends on a number of variables – location is a major factor.

location, type of ride, age, and agent are all factors in this topic .. for me in my area of north florida, it’s allstate and has been quite a few years .. for others it might be the highest .. shop around and find out .. sometimes can cut your 1st rate quote in half ..

markel was the cheapest i found in 2005 but they’ve tripled since then & i’ve never filed a claim with them or any other motorcycle insurance company since 1973 when i began riding. i’ll shop around next time & might switch.

why doesn’t the op look up phone numbers, write them down, and make a few calls. i believe that’s the way i had to do it. must be a millennial, used to having everything done for him.

there is no best, that is always in flux.

just got an estimate on line and is about 15.00 cheaper per year than progressive for me in indiana for same type of coverage. i never heard of these peep but will look closer at them for sure!

you’d consider a company that you’ve never heard of to save $15.00 per year?!? the company is probably fine as to be an admitted insurer in any state the company has to demonstrate a level of ability to pay claims but $15 per year for an unknown seems like a why bother to me sure; they’ll probably pay the claim but how hard will it be and how many additional calls will you have to make? when a scam artist accuses you of running into him at the local store and his attorney is sending you threatening letters this is the company that you want backing you up? also; small companies use third-party independent adjusters; which might be okay but a company like progressive has on staff adjusters which means faster more reliable service when you really need it. also; company employed adjusters typically have more authority to make decisions on the spot or within a short time span. regional companies can be great; many of them are but $15 per year hardley seems worth the risk. when you’re buying coverage you only care about the cost but when you have a claim you only care about the coverage and service

all true and good points.

however, i would change to save $15.00; just not until it is renewal time and this company had a referral, and i would look at them closer before i did purchase a policy not going into it blind and i no longer use an agent for my policies, i am never home to see them.

don’t forget your credit score, which can sometimes be the biggest factor in determining your cost.

very true on that one although think is a totally unfair assumption on their part .. far as i am concerned credit score shouldn’t mean a damn thing especially if a pay in full customer for over 10 years .. mentioned this last one because know of one this happened to, over a feud with medical insurance and related hospital bill, which later got resolved .. progressive if want to know the company .. just for the record he went with geico at a much lower rate ..
